Propane Is a Cost-Effective Solution for Pollution
- Propane is expected to be one of the most economical ways to keep our air clean, according to a study commissioned by the Trucking Research Institute of the American Trucking Associations' Foundation. The study shows that when compared to diesel fuel, clean-burning propane gas will increase the total operating cost of over-the-road vehicles by only 2%, instead of 8% for compressed natural gas (CNG) and a whopping 24% for methanol.
- Propane provides a larger vehicle operating range per gallon than any other alternative fuel. It costs approximately 30% less than conventional gasoline and yields only slightly lower mileage.
- Propane is clean burning. Because of this, oil changes are needed less often and spark plugs can last from 80,000 to 105,000 miles. This reduces maintenance costs to less than those of a gasoline-fueled vehicle.
- Propane leaves no sludge, varnish, or carbon deposits in a properly tuned engine, which is common in gasoline- and diesel-powered automobiles. Because of this clean-burning characteristic, propane engines can operate 2 to 3 times longer than gasoline and diesel engines between tune-ups.
- Propane is a premium-unleaded fuel with a high pump octane rating of 104, without additives. The higher the octane, the higher the fuel's antiknock properties, and the better the engine's performance.
